Abstract

To what extent can Greek culture be a reference point for humanism interpreted as an inquiry about humanity? To answer this question, we start from Nietzsche and his idea of decadence (i.e., a loss of ancient Greek peculiarities), which he criticizes by including it in his later process of unmasking which is a proposal for a new way to live personal humanity. We think that this proposal inspired the political philosopher Claudio Bazzocchi in arguing for renewing democracy based on an everlasting process of symbolization of human finitude. Because of it, he criticizes who wants to escape this condition.
