Abstract

The article analyzes the convergences and affinities between the role of philosophy according to Pierre Hadot and that of psychoanalysis according to Thomas Ogden, Christopher Bollas, and Carl Gustav Jung. Philosophy as a perceptual experience, in Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s teaching, appears to share common ground with the idea of an ontological psychoanalysis in which the possibility of transforming the disintegrated aspects of our psyche and our history passes through a different psycho-affective perception of the analytic relationship and of one’s own experience of being in the world. The dimension of truth, central to philosophy, is expressed in biographical terms in the psychoanalytic experience, inscribed within the horizon of authenticity.
