“Through Words”: Writing and Reading as Practices of Immanence

Abstract

A reflection on “practices of immanence” requires, first, a characterization of the concept examined, which will reveal to be somehow paradoxical. This self-contradiction is the focus of this paper, which assumes that writing and reading might be two “practices of immanence”. What apparently prevents man from being immediately “a life”, that is, language, could become a way to practice immanence. Two perspectives will be taken into consideration, the former starting from Bergson, the latter from Deleuze.
