Abstract

The aim of this paper is to investigate some of the fundamental lines
of research presented in the volume Sull’evento. Filosofia, storia, biopolitica, born

also from the recent pandemic crisis. Firstly, I will try to analyze the plural definitions of the word “event”, discerning between a “trivial” and an “emphatic” conception. Subsequently, I will concentrate on this second view, which I will relate to

événementialisme, namely contemporary french philosophy which reflects on the
“transcendental” category of event. Secondly, I will show how, according to many

authors of the volume, événementialisme dissociates the “pure” event from history. With the purpose of examining the complex links between event and history,

event and process, event and politics, I will follow other philosophical paths, taken
by Louis Althusser, Niccolò Machiavelli, Karl Marx and Simone Weil. Finally, I
will summarize the essential aspects of Roberto Esposito’s instituent thought, in
order to clarify the connection between “institution of conflict” and event.

Keywords

Event, pandemic crisis, événementialisme, process, instituent thought.
